Musings #3

The boy sits, staring at the floor
Arms crossed tight over his chest,
Face wearing an untouchable expression
The girl screams "Asshole!"
The boy sits, head in hands
Shoulders hunched over and vulnerable
Whole being shaking with emotion
The girl screams "Coward!"

Let's try another scenario:

The girl sits, short skirt and heels
Lipstick covered lips, charcoaled eyes
Ready and waiting for anything
The boys screams "Whore!"
The girl sits, hands clasped in lap
Downcast eyes, cheeks an embarrased red
Waiting to be left alone
The boy screams "Bitch!"

Why, I wonder, have we made a society where it is impossible to win?

And Here.

And here.
And here we sit.
While the blood boils and the worlds collide
We sit here contemplating life
All the things there are to discuss
What it is,
Where it will take us
On and On,
We sit.
And here.
As our bodies break
As we fall hard
As we fall fast
We sit here and debate the end
Nothing more or any less
Our experiences showing us what to believe
Making us believe
That there is an end;
That there has got to be an end
To this.

Musing #2

The gentle lapping of water caresses my ears.
My nose is filled with the smell of salt and fresh tropical air.
A light breeze wisps softly at my face as I sit on the white sand,
The coarse grains rough against my bared skin.
Turning my head, I see you walking towards me.
Your white cotton shirt is undone, the glow from
The setting  sun lights up your skin making it a honey gold.
Even from a distance I can feel your dark eyes on mine;
See the perfect curve of your lips as they spread into a smile.
You reach me and hold out a hand.
I take it and you pull me in-your arms incasing me in a warm, safe cage
That I never want to be freed from....
In my bed I squeeze my eyes shut until I see stars; willing myself not to wake up.
This is too perfect, this dream too real,
I want it to go on forever.
But like most things, that is not possible.
When I open my eyes the vision will disappear:
                                  the ocean will disappear
                                  the sand will disappear
                                  and you....
                                  You will disappear

Musing

Vulnerable.
We give ourselves away
Completely.
Thinking 'this is it'
Finally.
We stumble around afterwards
Broken.
And add our hearts
Willingly.
To the collection

Runner

* The runner pounds by, gravel kicking out behind him
his floppy hair slicked against his forehead
the muscles in his calves pump and his nostrils flare as he
puts one foot in front of the other, propelling himself forward
he looks like he's about to fall down yet he keeps a steady pace
stealy determination all over his face.
      I applaud him.
he looks over and a grin spreads over his sweaty face
...he's kinda cute when he smiles.

Wish

I wish words were easy
They could just spill out in waves
Always making sense and saying what needs
To be said
I wish showing feelings were easy
You could just flaunt them about
Without a care about showing what needs
To be showed
I wish friendship were easy
Laughing could be a type of game
We would play and laugh without any reason
To be laughing
I wish loving were easy
Two people perfectly in love
No one-sided; all equal and ready
To be loved

An Ending

In a coffee shop.
Two people sit at a table. A man and a woman. Both their drinks sit untouched in front of them. The man is drumming his fingers, staring off into space. The woman, arms crossed, legs crossed, stared at the man; one carefully shaped eyebrow raised. She suddenly bangs the table hard with a coiled fist. The man jumps. Coffee sloshes all over the table but neither seem to notice as it drips off the sides and pools on there laps. The mans mouth pulls down at the corners. The woman rolls her eyes and begins to rub her temples in slow, rhythmic circles. A diamond ring glitters on her finger. The man stares at it, mesmerized. The woman asks him a question, he nods. She gets up and clacks away, coming back with two new steaming cups of coffee. They sit in silence again. The man speaks. The woman frowns, making ugly creases appear across her brow. She starts to speak. Fast. Her voice rises, and rises. People turn to look, starts to whisper. The man just sits there, rolling a wooden stir stick through his fingers. The woman stops. They sit there in silence again. The woman takes the diamond ring off her finger and places it in front of the man. The woman stands, puts on her coat, and leaves. The man stares at the ring. He reaches out slowly, and carefully takes it off the table; as if scared it could break at any moment. He cradles it in his palm. He then picks up his cup and looks in it. It's empty. Setting the cup down, his eyes fall on the womans- untouched and still warm. The man grabs it and raising it to his lips; he drinks.

My Darling

Lie still my darling
Let me sing you a lullaby
Of your perfect curves and arcs

Stay with me my darling
Don't drift away into the sea of sleep
Just yet; let me lead you

Rest awhile my darling
Release yourself into my arms
And let us be one

Lie still my darling
Fight against your heavy lids
And let me dream with you

Birthday Cake

She sits in the dark kitchen. Slowly deflating balloons float down around her. On the table beside her an assortment of party hats, napkins, and paper plates are set out. In the middle sits bowls of chips and pretzels, and a cake with pink icing with the words “Happy Birthday Kathy” written sloppily in white. The candles are burning. She stares at the flickering flames, completely lost in thought. Suddenly the front door opens and in he walks. She gets up nervously, worry lines creasing her face. He enters the kitchen wearily, taking off his coat slowly and throwing it over a nearby chair.
“Did you...” she whispers.
“No...no I didn`t.” He answers, moving over to the table and collapsing into her old chair.
She breathes deeply. “I`ll...make you some coffee” she says. She hurriedly moves away from him and busies herself with the makings of coffee; taking out mugs, stir sticks, and grinds.
“I looked everywhere” He says, head in hands. “I was sure I knew where...”
“How could we know where? We don’t even...” She breaks. Tears pour down her cheeks. He moves to her, wraps his arms around her, his tears blending with hers.
“What did we...” She chokes out, her voice muffled from his sweater.
“Do wrong?” He finishes. “Nothing. Nothing at all.” He rests his chin on the top of her head and his eyes fix on the candles. Only half of them are burning now, the rest have melted into a multi-coloured pool on top of the cake.
She pulls away from him enough so that she can look at his face.
“Are you going to look tomorrow?” She asks, searching his face. She watches it cloud over, watches his brows knit together and his eyes harden slightly.
“No,” He answers bitterly. “I won`t. We are just going to wait”
She nods slowly. “We are just...going to wait.” She repeats quietly.
They exchange a sad smile.
“I think we should go to bed,” He says “Sleep is what we need right now.” He lets go of her and walks over to the stairs. He turns and holds a hand out to her.
“Just a second” She says. She walks over to the table and stares down at the birthday cake. One candle remains burning. The melted wax has now spread over the piped words, obscuring them completely. She closes her eyes and clasps her hands in front of her chest, as if in prayer. He watches her silently. She stays like that for a few minutes. When she opens her eyes she picks up a wooden match lying beside the cake and, striking it, she lights the pool of wax. The top of the cake erupts in flames. She turns towards him and takes his outstretched hand.
“Okay?” he asks softly.
“Okay.” She says.
They go up the stairs, hand in hand.
Out of the darkness, a girl’s face appears at the kitchen window.
Her eyes rest upon the cake of fire.
She smiles. She turns and  disappears into the night.

"Pink is just a red that's not trying hard enough"

Love is like...

Love is like sleep
Sometimes it's deep
Sometimes it's not
You will go Crazy
If you don't have it
Everyone needs it
And no matter what
People fall back into it

And so...

She stands there before me
a crumbling flower
not what she used to be
stripped of who she was

And so she cries

I used to cling to her
needing her shelter
needing her warm arms
now she clings to me

And so she cries

And I am a memory
of better days past
and I am a reminder
of what they've become

And so she cries

She stands there before me
broken and pieced together
lost in her role
scared and confused

And so she cries

Easy

Easy.
An easy test; one that you need not study for.
An easy game; one you have played many times before.
An easy girl; one who is used for only one thing.
An easy boy; one who is beat striving to be king.
An easy kiss; one that need no end.
An easy heart; one that need not mend.
An easy life; one who holds their head up high.
An easy truth; one that knows they tell no lie.
Easy.

Haikus

Fork in the road
Which way to go, left or right?
Its up to you now

The old antique shop
Filled with unwanted treasures
Waiting to be found

He is beautiful.
Ebony curls, soft skin
Silently sleeping.
