The Flower

A flower was given to me the other day,
A day like any other day.
The girl who gave it to me whispered in my ear:
This flower isn`t like any other flower,
It has three petals each for something different:
The first petal is for truth.
Pick this and all lies will be forgotten and truth
Will be told.
The second petal is for peace.
Pick this and all war will be forgotten and all
Differences will be settled.
The third petal is for love.
Pick this and all hate will be forgotten and we
Will learn to love one another.
The girl handed me the flower
And all at once,
I held the answer in my hands.

The Deer

The forest was quiet.
The morning dew covered the ferns and mosses,
Sparkling in the rays of the rising sun
A deer padded softly through the trees
Her slender legs brushed against the wet foliage,
Sending diamond teardrops raining down on
forest floor.
Stopping suddenly in the shade of a tall oak
The deer cocked her head to one side,
Twitching her pointy ears, listening.
Raising her nose, she sniffed the light breeze
Deeming it safe, the deer stepped out into a
Pool of sunlight, her large brown eyes cautiously
Scanning the dark trees around her.
Swishing her white tail and flicking at a fly with one of her ears,
The deer lowered her graceful neck to the ground
searching for food.
All was peaceful.
The hunter aimed his gun.

Consuming

You pull me under
Swallow me whole
Knock the breath from my lungs
Turn my legs into a jello-y mess
Make my heart skip a beat
Curl my fingers and toes
Bring my words to a stop
Distract all my being;
You consume me

The Family of Trees

A family of trees wanted to be haunted
Haunted by the ghost of a past they used to know
They went down to the west coast to see
What they could see
They all went together that family of trees

They stood together on the wharf waiting until
A young girl swam up to them and said
Shake your hearts and she`ll appear
So the family of trees shook their hearts
And their ghost appeared

Standing there, transparent, all alone in her black coat
the family of trees packed her in their
Suitcase and went back home with the secret
That they and kept for far too long
Cause they hadn`t had the voice

They had stored their voice in the basement
(No time to think of consequences)
Down in the basement all alone
They had never had any fun so
Voice had packed her bags and left for a land of sleep

The family of trees took their ghost home
And stored her in the basement, hidden away
Forgetting their last mistake
(They fated to pretend
that their life could start anew)

The ghost was unhappy,
The weight of their world on her shoulders
The ghost remembered one thing
A girl; and how she was going to teach her
How to swim

The family of trees listened to her plea:
There`s a place I`d like to go somewhere out west
There`s a girl out there looking for it too
And she`s going to teach me to swim
And show me the way to the end

The family of trees shook in angst
Tears building up inside
Heart screaming from limb to limb
And they realized
This is what words are for

But they had no microphone and all they could hear
Was the sound of their voice
Laughing at their fear
Knowing it will end as everything ends
Even love; though it will still remain

The ghost, leaving only memories
So as to cleanse her mind
Went on her way to the west coast
And met the girl who said
I can take you down the road only I have traveled

(The only road that takes you to the end)
And the ghost looked down
And she took off her coat, showing her firmed skin
And the girl opened her arms
And the corpse floated in
